Free travel for injured Veterans
On 27 June, Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, announced Transport for London’s intention to allow free travel for certain groups of veterans within the London transport network. A copy of the news release can be viewed here.
Full details are still to be decided, but those entitled should include veterans in receipt of a War Pension (20% or more), those entitled to an AFCS Guaranteed Income Payment (GIP) (Tariffs 1-11), war widow(er)s and AFCS survivors GIP recipients. Visitors (within these groups) to the capital are also likely to be entitled, although free travel will only apply for journeys within the London area.
Further details and information on how to apply for this entitlement will be announced in October, with free travel commencing in November 2008.
